As a mother, I’m always concerned about my kids’ health and wellbeing. I want to make sure they are always healthy and don’t fall sick easily.
Other than making sure they get vaccinated as scheduled and required; eating well, eating healthy foods, sleeping and napping enough, the list could go on and on. But even with those done, I will still feel I haven’t done enough.
With so many viruses and bacterias around, I feel that I need to give them extra protection. Of course, I can’t prevent them from going out. So, based on what I’ve learned, I should give them vitamin C supplement to support their bodies’ immune system. Now, where can I find Vitamin C for kids?
I’ve searched and browsed through pharmacies, Guardian, Watsons, even Amway catalogs. Most of them sell good-quality supplements, of course. But it’s either they are too sweet like candies or dosage is too low.
You see, my eldest daughter also has skin issues, so a good dose of vitamin C is important for her.
The vitamin C supplement must also be chewable. Else, how would the kids be able to take it? I’m also concerned about the colouring. Yes, I know that they only use permitted and food-grade colouring. But still, it’s children we are talking about. We should limit the amount of additives in anything they consume.
Especially after I found out more about vitamin C fun facts.
According to Medline Plus: “The body is not able to make vitamin C on its own, and it does not store vitamin C. It is therefore important to include plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in your daily diet.”
Daily diet. How many kids would eat fruits or vegetables which are high in vitamin C daily?
What’s more? Still according to Medline Plus:
“For many years, vitamin C has been a popular household remedy for the common cold.
- Research shows that for most people, vitamin C supplements or vitamin C-rich foods do not reduce the risk of getting the common cold.
- However, people who take vitamin C supplements regularly might have slightly shorter colds or somewhat milder symptoms.
- Taking a vitamin C supplement after a cold starts does not appear to be helpful.”
Hmmm.. so if I understand correctly, our bodies’ natural immune system will work much better if we take vitamin C supplements daily, not only when we start falling sick. Especially for young children, they don’t know how to communicate properly yet thus adults won’t know when they are falling sick until it’s too late.

P.S.: I haven’t given the Super C to my youngest daughter yet because the recommended age to start taking it is 4 years old and above. I will definitely give her Super C once she hits 4 years old or after I gain approval from her doctors.
